The music mixing console has looked and functioned more or less the same throughout the last 50 years. This project explores different control structures for mixing music than the traditional track-based approach. The project combines in depth interviews and live sessions with established sound technicians with a future technology workshop with sound technician students from the Copenhagen Conservatory. The developed framework implements a TUI/GUI interface that lets users place sounds as fiducial-blocks on a multi-touch table. Tracks are controlled using a stage-metaphor where volume is adjusted by the distance of the sound from the listener and panning is controlled by the angle from the listener.
