One of the key elements of my research path has been the study of communication processes in different systems and disciplines, having worked with and studied communication in biological, socio-technological, cultural and artistic contexts.

Therefore, one of the overall goals of my research line is to explore the interfaces and relations (in a wide perspective) between technology, cognition and culture.

More specifically, my research intends to link the biological-semiotic basis of multi-modal perception with higher cognitive processes that involve individual and/or social human interfaces with digital interactive technology, and the social and cultural innovations and implications that can be derived from these processes in a "globalised information and knowledge society."

In our department, we intend to bridge the creative use of representational, immersive and interactive digital technology with human cognitive and cultural processes.

• At the technology-cognition interface, the study of sensing and perception becomes the departure point for the modelling and analysis of more complex and elaborate cognitive processes in the man-digital technology interface.
• At the cognition-culture interface the idea is to explore the cognitive implications of key processes such as creativity, emotiveness, meaning formation, narrativity, and imagination in relation to interactive, immersive and representational technologies. This technologies offer new possibilities for re-launching top-down approaches in the investigation of key higher levels of cognition.

Teaching
I teach three courses in the Medialogy Master: "Multimodal Perception", "Digital Culture" and "Narrative in Interactive Systems". I am also involved in the teaching of Theory of Science.

Olga Timcenko joined Medialogy department of Aalborg University in Copenhagen in fall 2006, as an Associate Professor. Before joining the University, she was a Senior Technology Consultant in LEGO Business development, LEGO Systems A/S, where she worked for different departments of LEGO on research and development of multimedia materials for children, including LEGO Digital Designer and LEGO Mindstorms NXT. She was active in FIRST LEGO League project (world-wide robotic competition among school children), and Computer-clubhouse project. During 2003-2006, she was LEGO's team leader in EU-financed Network of excellence in Technology enhanced learning called Kaleidoscope, and actively participated in several Kaleidoscope JERIPs and SIGs. She has a Ph.D. in Robotics from Suddansk University in Odense, Denmark and she is author / co-author of 40+ conference and journal papers in the field of robotics and children and technology, and 4 international patents in the field of virtual 3D worlds / 3D user interfaces for children. Her last project for LEGO was redesign of the Mindstorms iconic programming language for children (the product was launched world-wide in August 2006).

Rolf Nordahl 's research interests lie within VR, (Tele)- Presence, Sonic Interaction Design, and developing new methods and evaluation techniques for VR, Presence and Games. He is principal investigator for the EU funded project Natural Interactive Walking, and has earlier done seminal work on the EU-project BENOGO (the project was focused on HMD-based photo-realistic VR). Likewise he is a recognized member of the expert panel under the Danish Evaluation Institute as well as being member of various steering committees. He is currently the chairman for the Studyboard of Mediatechnology.

Stefania Serafin is associate professor in Medialogy where she teaches audio design, auditory perception, interactive acoustics and supervises Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. students. Previously to joining Medialogy, she got a Ph.D. in Computer Based Music theory and acoustics from CCRMA, Stanford University, and a Master in Acoustics and Signal processing applied to Music from IRCAM in Paris. She has been visiting researcher at Cambridge University and KTH is Stockholm, and visiting professor at the University of Virginia. She has published about 100 papers on sound synthesis by physical models and new interfaces for musical expression, and she is Medialogy responsible for the EU COST action on sonic interaction design and the EU network Sound Forum ¯resund.

My research focus is media use in an applied context: I have a user perspective from a field of media sociology. I focus on media use and contextual aspects and take the users communication situation and everyday life in account. Media use should be understood broad and on different platforms. I am especially interested in how the viewers watch (interactive) television, mobile phones usages in public spaces and different motivation aspects of playing computer games. I am also interested in developing new strategies and aspects in the qualitative methods.
